According to the International Cotton Advisory Committee - ICAC projection for the fiber in cotton production for the crop year 2012/2013 is expected to reach an amount of 15.19 million tons , according to a forecast released in August 2012 . In the Brazilian context , according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply of Brazil cotton cultivation in Brazil has grown especially in the Midwest . In particular , exports of cotton fiber increased twice in one season in 2003/2004 , Brazil produced 1.2 million tons of fiber, increasing by 46.3 % compared to the previous harvest . With this scenario it is important to use intelligent systems for managing data and processes, traceability is a important example for this, allowing monitoring of processes related to production by recovering data in several steps contributing to quality assurance for a given desired final product and derivatives. The research focus is Brazilian agriculture in the Midwest in particular Mato Grosso state with a more specific interest in cotton production . The absence of an infrastructure that allows creating traceability in cotton production , from planting to derivatives , hinders the visibility of the supply chain and thus hidden data about changes in the processes and possible fixes . Another important point is to improve the quality standards of reducing production costs and adding value to the final product . The paper proposes a traceability chain in the context of cotton production presenting an architecture for data collection along the production chain from planting to processing . The implementation of the proposal was developed to provide a distributed environment with multiple sources of data collection in legacy systems , in addition to implementation will use Radio Frequency Identification or RFID to collect the data derived from the various logical units in various stages of production. The article aims to present the research design and innovation in the enterprise Unisystem Agricultural Systems with the participation of academic researchers . The project intends to design and implement an infrastructure model for traceability cotton , following a practical approach and objective . The use of traceability in this case is focused on meeting the demands of new value-added products market related to the consumer . Importantly, research has government support state and has technical support in the development of multidisciplinary research institutions active in this segment collaboratively. The end result of the research is a hybrid computing system comprised of hardware and software to perform the distributed collection , monitoring and evolution of the data generated in the cotton production chain .
